93. Closing Night: True Patriot Love with Carol Off

Come together with other engaged readers and thinkers at this year’s closing night event, where we’ll consider who we are as Canadians, where we’re going, and why Canada is seen by many as a beacon of hope in an age of cynicism. In True Patriot Love, former CBC Radio host Carol Off draws on both personal experiences and national history to reveal a hopeful portrait of our collective identity. Off also wrote the foreword for a forthcoming republication of The Vanishing Country by the late author and activist Mel Hurtig. Originally published in 2002, Hurtig’s book is a trailblazing record of the alarming “sellout” of Canada to the USA. Off speaks with David Moscrop, editor of this new edition, about how lessons from the crises of the past sixty years have prepared Canadians to seize the current moment to become a more mature and sovereign country.

Presented in partnership with Canada’s National Observer.
