Canada is under siege from the simultaneous threats of climate change ravaging the land, and foreign interference undermining the foundations of our democracy. These intertwining perils are not a coincidence, but the result of capitalist government policies that prioritize resource extraction over protection of land and people. L.E. Fox dissects climate change from a radical, working-class perspective in This Book Is a Knife. In Mother Earth Is Our Elder, Dene activist and writer Katłı̨̀ą offers insight from elders and knowledge keepers who have long protected Mother Earth. Patrick Lennox’s urgent On Treason reveals the calculated influence of the global far right on the Albertan separatist referendum, touching upon northern resource extraction that is a driving force of this dangerous movement. From different vantage points, they’ll investigate and fight for the survival of the north. Moderated by David Moscrop.

L.E. FOX’s work explores class, gender, sexuality, the environment, and the messy places where these realities intersect. They are the author of two essay collections: This Has Always Been a War and This Book Is a Knife (nominated for the 2026 Jim Deva Prize for Writing That Provokes).
KATŁĮ̀Ą is a northern Dene woman who spends her time between her ancestral homelands in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories and Lekwungen Speaking Peoples Coast Salish Territory. She is the author of multiple books, including a memoir, Northern Wildflower, written as Catherine Lafferty. Katłı̨̀ą is a mother, grandmother and articling lawyer.
PATRICK LENNOX is a Canadian writer based in Edmonton, Alberta. He worked to counter foreign interference for over a decade in both Ottawa and in Edmonton with Canada’s security and intelligence community. He first started writing about Canada-US relations twenty years ago, and has a PhD in political science from the University of Toronto. He’s a frequent contributor to The Walrus.
DAVID MOSCROP is a politics writer, commentator, and podcast host. A contributing writer for The Walrus, his work has also appeared in publications including The Globe and Mail, The Washington Post, The Toronto Star, Time Magazine, The New Statesman, and The Guardian. He holds a PhD in political science from the University of British Columbia and is currently an editor at McClelland & Stewart. He lives in Ottawa.
