23. Masterclass with Kern Carter

Kern Carter’s And Then There Was Us was recently voted Top Teen Novel of 2024 by Indigo, and the YA writer’s star continues to rise. Appropriately, he believes that writers are superstars, and will make every kid feel like they have the potential to be just that with his warm, high-energy, humorous, and surprising presentations that have quickly become a highlight of any festival he attends. Connecting writing and publishing to pop culture, Carter helps students build their confidence and understand their true value to the broader culture. His Masterclass is bound to connect with students and offer thought-provoking, relatable ways to use writing in our lives. Grades 8–12.

Kern Carter

KERN CARTER is a full-time freelance writer and author who has written and self-published two novels — Thoughts of a Fractured Soul (novella) and Beauty Scars. His YA novel Boys and Girls Screaming released in April 2022, published by DCB, an imprint of Cormorant Books. Kern is also a ghostwriter with credits in Forbes, the New York TimesGlobal Citizen, Elle Magazine and Fatherly.com, and has ghostwritten several books. When he’s not penning novels or ghostwriting, Kern is curating stories through CRY, his online publication that creates space for artists to navigate through the emotions of their creative journey. He lives in downtown Toronto with his daughter.
