09. Masterclass with Marty Chan

09. Masterclass with Marty Chan

Marty Chan has been professionally lying since 1998. Or, at least, that’s how long the award-winning author and playwright has been storytelling for. He’s the author of more than 20 books and plays, the latest of which, Izzy Wong’s Nose for News, follows a sixth-grade student who wants to start her own hit investigative podcast. In a captivating event for students, Chan will share what he’s learned from his 25+ year writing career in accessible, fun tips. How is writing a bit like playing video games? What can Star Wars teach us about writing a good story climax? And what’s the difference between a “pantser” and a “planner”? Students will discover this and more in an hour that will fly by with one of the best in the industry. Grades 4–7.

Themes: Middle-grade fiction, mystery, creative writing, storytelling
Curriculum Connections: English Language Arts 4-9
