In September 2015, a photo of a little boy’s body on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea went viral. The boy’s name was Alan Kurdi, nephew of author and refugee advocate Tima Kurdi. In discussion with journalist Kathryn Gretsinger, Kurdi describes a family’s flight from war-torn Syria to Vancouver.
