Each year since 2000 the Vancouver Writers Fest has hosted a whisky tasting event called The Dram—previously A Dram Come True. Guests enjoy unlimited drams of whisky from distilleries around the world, as well as local craft spirits and beer. They savour delicious food, peruse our silent auction—featuring rare and unique whiskies—and relish in live entertainment by local musicians. Who knew you could have so much fun and support local arts and culture at the same time?

The Dram 2018 was our most successful event to date, raising over $40,000 to support our youth literary education programs, including Spreading the Word and Reading with Writers. Our guests indulged in classic whiskies—such as Glenfarclas, Highland Park and The Macallan—as well as hand-crafted cocktails by Sons of Vancouver, and decadent eats by local Lebanese restaurant, Jamjar. Attendees were greeted by the vibrant sound of bagpipes, played by the indelible Allan McMordie, and entertained with jazzy renditions of Sinatra, Elton John and the like by crooner Joel Flynn and pianist Eddie Lam. Writers Fest staff joined our guests in humming, singing and dancing the night away!

We hope you’ll join us in making next year an even greater success! Watch this page for updates. Tickets to The Dram 2019 go on sale in January.
