This showcase of spoken word artists is a highlight of the Festival every year. With infectious energy and honesty, the highest calibre of poets share both their best-loved and most recent work. This year is no different. CBC Arts hails Kim Villagante, otherwise known as K!mmortal, as “creating a universe” which she does through song, poetry, rap, dance and visuals. Erin Kirsh was a member of the Vancouver Youth Poetry Slam Team and has performed for audiences, especially youth, across North America, for almost a decade. Dana I.D. Matthews is a Haitian-born, Ontario-raised bilingual poet emcee, whose work speaks to his unique upbringing. Hosted by award-winning slam poet and Verses Festival of Words Artistic Director Jillian Christmas, they promise to electrify the morning.

Grades 8–12 & adults.

Presented in partnership with SFU’s Faculty of Communications, Art & Technology.
