It’s monsoon season in Bangladesh and the rain seems endless. When young Iqbal sees his family get sick from the smoke of their indoor stove, he is determined to find a solution. Building his own solar-powered stove as a science project, he helps his family while championing sustainable technology. One of Kids Can Press’s CitizenKid series, Iqbal and His Ingenious Idea is sure to not only encourage creativity but also the understanding that—regardless of age—we all have the power to make a difference in our community. Elizabeth Suneby celebrates love of family, perseverance, religious traditions and stewardship of the environment in this colourful picture presentation.

Grades 3–6.
