Captivating Stories with Christopher Paul Curtis

Tuesday, October 16
1:00pm - 2:00pm
Revue Stage

1601 Johnston St, Vancouver

Two-time Newbery Medal–winner Christopher Paul Curtis wants children to know that who they are isn’t set in stone. They can, and should, change and grow and stand up against what they know is wrong, just like the character in his new book, The Journey of Little Charlie. Curtis’s engaging tale is a unique vehicle for discussing the roots of racism, the evolution of social justice and the long reach of history. Don’t miss this chance to meet one of North America’s most decorated children’s writers.

Grades 4–7.

Christopher Paul Curtis grew up in Flint, Michigan and is the oldest son of a couple of voracious readers.  Immediately after high school he began working on the assembly line of Flint Plant Number One. His job was hanging doors. He soon developed an aversion to getting into automobiles. Especially Buicks. The factory also saved his life because it is where he began writing. His first book was The Watsons Go To Birmingham 1963. His latest children’s book is The Journey of Little Charlie.
