Uzma Jalaluddin writes “Samosas and Maple Syrup,” a culture and parenting column for The Toronto Star. Her debut novel, Ayesha At Last, is a revamped Pride and Prejudice set in a close-knit Toronto Muslim community. It features outspoken, hijab-wearing poet Ayesha (aka Lizzie Bennet) who falls for traditional, white-robe wearing, fan-of-arranged-marriage Khalid (aka Mr. Darcy). Together, they face family drama, community scandal, and professional scrutiny on their path towards love. Jalaluddin lives in Toronto with her family.
