Please join the Vancouver Writers Fest and SFU for an informative discussion on Careers in Books on December 3 on the Vancouver Writers Fest YouTube Channel.

Do you have students who enjoy reading, shaping conversations or listening to podcasts? Do they like to tell stories or help others tell them? Do they notice holes of representation when browsing bookshelves or Netflix recommendations? If so, then a career in books might be of interest to them.

There are so many ways that ideas and stories are created and disseminated across our society. The publishing industry is a place where people can develop an expansive career, shaping words and stories that impact our society. A career in books extends far beyond writing and editing and can be shaped by an education.

Tune in to watch a panel discussion between individuals who have found unique and interesting careers working with books. Hosted by Assistant Professor in Publishing@SFU and host of The SpokenWeb Podcast Hannah McGregor, the panel includes Leslie Hurtig, Artistic Director of the Vancouver Writers Fest, Judith Plant, founder of New Society Publishers – a medium for social activism and Leena Desai, a recent graduate of the SFU Masters of Publishing program.

Learn from their personal stories working in the book world and get advice for how young people can adapt to the ever-changing landscape where people are telling stories through a variety of different mediums. Learn how varied and exciting a career in books can be!
