Website Design (Download Description)

The Vancouver Writers Fest is one of North America’s premiere literary festivals, attracting more than 30,000 people to 100+ events throughout the year and during the flagship Festival in October. We have a diverse audience, primarily based in the Lower Mainland, ranging from 8- to 80-year olds.

As a dynamic not-for-profit, we are working to redesign our website for June 2017. We are seeking a visionary, talented designer who possesses attention-to-detail, proven experience designing websites, an understanding of Wordpress, and a passion for working closely with clients.

The website will be clean, bold and easy-to-navigate, offering information about our year round events and initiatives; custom content via our blog; and – from August to October – a detailed, interactive and searchable list of our 100+ events as part of the annual Festival.

The layout and aesthetic for the new website will be significantly different to our current website: writersfest.bc.ca. Content will be similar. A detailed summary of page content will be provided at the start of the contract.

The Vancouver Writers Fest has an in-depth set of visual identity regulations, and a design team working on Festival-branding, which should be utilized as part of the design.

Website Design Requirements:

Working within the Vancouver Writers Fest’s visual identity regulations and current
design team to create a fresh but consistent design;

Understanding of Wordpress layout and plugin options;

Providing up to 18 different page designs – not based on an existing template including:

  • Home Page including multiple panels and content automatically pulled from
  • Blog and Events pages;
  • Blog Page (home and specific blog section);
  • Events Summary Page;
  • Event Listings Pages and Interactive Menus to Accompany;
  • Simple Text/Content Pages x4;
  • Forms for Donations, Volunteering and Event Sign-Ups.

Up to three rounds of revisions from client;

Final PDF designs plus all visual assets in PNG/JPG format plus hex values for all colours;

Checking of final website prior to launch to ensure consistency with original designs.

Should you be interested in this project, please submit an RFP with examples of previous work and a summary quotation by Wednesday, February 15. RFPs should be sent to: Zoe Grams, zoe@zgcommunications.com, with the subject line “VWF Website Designer Application.” Testimonials are encouraged but not essential; references will be required from shortlisted candidates.

We are also seeking a website coder/developer to code the website. If you can provide both parts of this service, please read our Website Coder RFP and submit a joint application.

We thank you for understanding that only those shortlisted for the project will be contacted.

We are seeking a dynamic website developer with keen attention to detail and experience both working with external designers and in Wordpress.

The website will be clean, bold and easy-to-navigate, offering information about our year round events and initiatives; custom content via our blog; and – from August to October – a detailed, interactive and searchable list of our 100+ events as part of the annual Festival.

Festival events are searchable by genre and day and a database that enables this is essential. Similarly, event descriptions include the names of authors participating, each of whom have their own biography pages. These pages must be linked so any changes on one are reflected in the other.

The layout and aesthetic for the new website will be significantly different to our current website: writersfest.bc.ca. Content will be similar.

Website Features and Deliverables Include:

  • Creating a Wordpress website based on a PDF of designs from an external designer, with up to 18 different page templates;
  • Home page which pulls content automatically from blog page;
  • Blog page and posts setup;
  • Social media feed plugins;
  • Database that houses information about 100+ events (from August to October
  • only), easily editable. Database must be searchable by the public based on up to five fields. See below for further information;
  • Multiple forms including those for volunteer signup; membership signup and ability for Writers Fest users to create forms;
  • Online donation system setup (in consultation with our fundraising team about requirements);
  • A simple interface that allows Writers Fest staff to create the majority of updates;
  • Up to three rounds of revisions from client;
  • Checking of final website prior to launch to ensure consistency with original designs;
  • Secondary navigation menu easily shown on website from August – October only;
  • Availability for troubleshooting and answering staff questions following launch of the website. Additional contract work may be available.

Database Features:

With more than 100 events and 100 authors who visit the Festival every October, it’s essential the Writers Fest website hosts an easy-to-navigate and filterable database system where events can be viewed and searched. The database build must include:

  • Easy uploading of 100+ biographies (75 words) and 100+ event descriptions (100- 150 words);
  • Linking between authors and events: if changes are made to event lineups, author pages which showcase each event they are participating in will be automatically updated, too;
  • Template for event page, author page and search page all included as part of design;
  • Filters for website users to search events by genre; day; author;
  • Automatic “sold out” addition to event descriptions selected by Writers Fest staff as such.

Should you be interested in this project, please submit an RFP with examples of previous work and a summary quotation by Wednesday, February 15. RFPs should be sent to: Zoe Grams, zoe@zgcommunications.com, with the subject line “VWF Website Coder Application.” Testimonials are encouraged but not essential; references will be required from shortlisted candidates.

We are also seeking a website designer to design the website. If you can provide both parts of this service, please read our Website Designer RFP and submit a joint application.

We thank you for understanding that only those shortlisted for the project will be contacted.
