Madeleine Thien’s novels and stories have been translated into 25 languages, and her essays have appeared in Granta, The Guardian and Al Jazeera. She has taught literature and fiction in Canada, China, Germany, Nigeria, the US, Zimbabwe, Singapore and Japan. In 2013, she was named SFU’s Writer-in-Residence. Her latest novel, Do Not Say We Have Nothing, takes us inside an extended family in China, showing us the lives of two successive generations: those who lived through Mao's Cultural Revolution and the children of the survivors who became the students protesting in Tiananmen Square in 1989.
