Christopher Merrill has published six collections of poetry including Watch Fire, winner of the Academy of American Poets’ Lavan Award; translations; several edited volumes; and five books of non-fiction. His writing has been translated into 25 languages. He serves on the US National Commission for UNESCO, and in April 2012 President Obama appointed him to the National Council on the Humanities. Merrill directs the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa and in the past has held the William H. Jenks Chair in Contemporary Letters at the College of the Holy Cross. Boat is his most recent collection of poems.
