André Alexis was born in Trinidad and grew up in Ottawa. He has been called a “master craftsman” for his novel Fifteen Dogs, which won the 2015 Scotiabank Giller Prize and the Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize. He currently hosts CBC Radio's Skylarking, reviews books for The Globe and Mail, and is a contributing editor for This Magazine. His latest novel, The Hidden Keys, is based on a reading of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island and questions what it means to be honourable and faithful.
